hi
As you can see, we debuted the Backstage section of abbywinters.com today. I am very keen to hear your opinions! There is heaps more material to come, of course. What is there currently is just a taste.
As I am about to start shooting again in Melbourne, ideas for the type of shots you'd like to see in the future are welcome!

I *love* this new backstage area. I think it's a great idea to give us a glimpse of the behind-the-scenes!
I suppose I have a slight predilection towards this from my acting/modeling days, since it brings back some memories of what it was like during the 70% of time when you weren't on camera. But more than that, I think there is an inherent curiosity of how the models behave naturally when they don't have to pose for the cameras. It also shows how much work Abby, Vid-Dude, Tahlia, etc. have to go through just to get the great shots - which doesn't even include the editing and posting work afterwards. Another added benefit is that we see more pictures of the models in different settings.
I find it gives me the "whole picture". What makes this site stand out (and better) from the rest is that it's based upon all things natural and real, added with a personal touch from Abby herself. This kind of candor is rarely seen in the porn industry, and it is this very fact that maintains such high loyalty to this site. Providing a backstage area only enhances the experience and reaffirms that commitment. It is yet another point for AbbyWinters.com
(Side note: I believe people like to see candid shots. After all, why were shows like Candid Camera and Funniest Home videos so successful and lasted so long?)

And, for true perverts like me, don't forget the voyeuristic thrill of these shots.
Who are those people in the background, that sort of thing.
Catching the young lovelies off-guard, occassionally with their pants down! Literally! OY!

A+ for the backstage section. Thank you, thank you, thank you Abby. The models look entirely different in that setting. I really enjoyed and actually prefered the natural light photography. Often it seems to me that the details are more visible in the natural light. The shots in bikinis are great because the suits are so colorful against their skin. The shots in the studio were great because I don't think the models were consciously posing and it was a glimpse into their personality, I think. Anyway, would love to see more of the same.

The backstage area is all I have been hoping for! Congratulations VidDue for the design as well - very classy. I was just expecting some raw pics, so the commentary that went along with it was an unexpected bonus.
I expect your current trip to Melbourne is providing you with great backstage material - are you taking lots of backstage pics this time?
Don't forget the "height pics" so we can keep an idea of the models' sizes in Susies!
Would also be fun to see some general pics of the location you're using. I expect the photo experts would like to see details of the lighting etc. you're using too, although that is a bit lost on me.

Great backstage pictures this morning (May 4th).
A couple of things come to mind.
First of all, who's that in backstage0485 (http://www.abbywinters.com/members/gold/galleries/backstage/backstage0485.JPG)? She doesn't fit your recent model profile but she looks very alert and alive. You've got another mystery guest in backstage509 (http://www.abbywinters.com/members/gold/galleries/backstage/backstage0509.JPG) but she's not as present.
Second of all I think you're sometimes too hard on yourself. Your outtakes of Susie and Nikki are still very attractive and attention getting. There are enough outtakes in that series to tell another story, more of two friends working well together and doing a great job. The original series is a lot sexier, the second is more interesting. The surrealistic bonus is you get this voyeuristic peep at two women doing a porn shoot instead of changing in a lockerroom or something. *Way* better than phony dressing-room porn shots since it was real, consensual, but (importantly) unintentional. Very cool. Thanks.
Third, I know Videodude and Elvaar want to do scenarios but trying it with amateurs is a bad idea. Trying to setup a scene with Beth and Julia when, as far as I can tell, they'd never posed nude before, never been intimate with other women, never been intimate with each other, and never been intimate on camera in a room full of busy people... (http://www.abbywinters.com/members/gold/galleries/backstage/backstage0480.JPG) And you wonder why they froze up? There are some absolutely lovely images in the set, including backstage0486 (http://www.abbywinters.com/members/gold/galleries/backstage/backstage0486.JPG), backstage0495 (http://www.abbywinters.com/members/gold/galleries/backstage/backstage0495.JPG), backstage0507 (http://www.abbywinters.com/members/gold/galleries/backstage/backstage0507.JPG), and backstage0508 (http://www.abbywinters.com/members/gold/galleries/backstage/backstage0508.JPG). Those images intimate, graceful and very sexy, and they have nothing to do with acting out a sub/dom theme and everything to do with amateur exploration of something new. With those images it probably helps that they were tired.
Don't get me wrong about playing scenes. I think they're fine, but you only get that first-time thing once. If you can get them to come back a couple of times so they're used to the whole experience then you can do scenes. You might try it if the models are already hopelessly awkward and uninspired and you're not getting anything you want anyway -- then it might help for them to stop pretending they're gay and pretend they're actresses instead.
Finally, was Julia pregnant and did she know it yet? Elsewhere you asked us to guess which models were and I'd already thought she might have been very early. Just curious. If she's not then see if you can get her back for another round with Beth. They're both very sweet and you might get them to go further.
Thanks for the great set.

Hi, TFL.
I can answer your first questions about backstage 485 and 509.
That's Jessica. A while ago Abby had her in the "upcoming models" thumbnail row of the members page, squatting on the balcony and peeing. There is also an entry in "The Models" part of the discussion boards about her.
Anyone who follows my posts knows my appreciation of Jessica's body type (not to mention her cheerful disposition), and I've been waiting a long time to see her.
Hint, hint, wink, wink, Abby.

P.S. I think those backstage pics are SEXY!

TFL,
Our objective hasn't been to create scenarios for the sake of trying to tell a story. If we're shooting for stills only it's pretty easy (though very time consuming) to compose each shot or sequence, but often, as was the case with Beth and Julia, we're shooting for video as well. If we threw these girls some sex toys and told them to go for it, they'd have undressed themselves then laid on their backs going through the motions of insertion. So we often concoct a premise or scenario just to give the shoot continuity, and ensure we get the shots and angles we need.
They weren't first-timers. Beth was so painfully shy (or braindead, not sure which) I can't even remember her saying a word. And although she (and Julia) had prior experience in this industry she just didn't know what to do and we had to direct pretty much every single move, which was extremely frustrating (and apparently comes through in the pictures). The images in Backstage are good BECAUSE the girls were relaxing after a shoot sequence, but without the sequence, there's no relaxing. We all wish we could have got them to relax like that all through but sometimes it just won't happen.
Our models cover the gamut of personality types and some are, unfortunatley, just asexual and don't have a clue what we want, no matter how much we patiently talk it through first. So we have to direct. And for stills, if you tried to pose each shot, you'd end up with 20 pictures rather than 200 to pick a series from - so we talk them through a sequence while Abby snaps away, and hope they can at least LOOK natural.
Fortunately there are girls who really ARE interested in what they're doing, like Susie and Nikki. We just wish it were always the case.

It's been a while since the last one, so thanks for today's backstage update -- fascinating commentary, as always. http://www.abbywinters.com/discus/clipart/happy.gif But Joanne and Mianna: stills first or video? The two commentaries contradict each other on this point. Whichever was first, I can't discern the film or stills being any less passionate than the other, resulting in the neat illusion that it was all done concurrently (as in the Susue & Nikki set).
It really amazes me, what with all the interuptions and whathaveyou, that Mianna and Joanne were able to turn in two scorching performances in a row.
Nice to see Danny crop up in a few pics too. I guess she was standing in for Susie at the time?

No contradiction - Elvaar is referring to the first solo shoot, Abby is referring to the first couples shoot, which is explained as the first anything with Joanne, and in fact was videoed first, photographed a little at the same time, then photographed some more after the video was done.

How happy is a clam? How about a clam at a clambake? I always laugh at those signs you see on restaurants and fast food chains where the chicken/cow/pig is grinning merrily as it rotates over the BBQ with a skewer up its arse. I even saw a chicken shop once called "the happy hen".
Heidi was a tough audience, I can tell you that. Abby and I threw pretty much our whole repertoire at her and nary did a nipple jiggle mirthfully.

Arsby, that looks more like a jaffle than a clam. In fact it's so endearing I feel moved to copyright him at once and start a chain called The Happy Jaffle. It has to be easier than this business. After recent experiences I've even asked Abby if we can switch to whitegoods catalogues because fridges don't complain, don't have periods, and they usually turn up on time. Some of them are even good looking.

On the other hand,
if you leave things inside them too long they get moldy,

Same with refrigerators.

Hi All,
I was one of the original complainers, but I hereby withdraw my complaint. Part of the problem was the way that I was handling the sheer quantity of great material that is delivered here. There was so much material that I felt like it was "drinking from the firehose", and the motion capture stuff seemed unnecesary. Now I have modified the way that I handle the volume of material here, and it is much more manageable for me.
One more thing... I loved the most recent installment of Backstage. I really appreciate this aspect of the site - it gives us some pix that we never see in the regular sets, including models interacting that are never shot together. I also love the commentary - great stuff that adds life to the models and the AW crew. And as a photographer myself, I enjoy seeing the way that the equipment is set up, and the model is positioned, etc... I wish we got more BackStage stuff, but I can see that it is a lot of extra work for the crew, so I won't be a pain in the ass about it.
Thanks for all of your effort. I love it here, and I'm in for the duration.

It was lovely to see Cass in the most recent backstage pictures. I long suspected you guys try and make the girls feel comfortable behind the scenes. Seeing Cass being playful was great, especially with Melly! And I also like Cass's story about her smile. If posing here gives these young women more confidence, that is such a bonus. Like Cass, I hope once Melly started smiling, she went on and shared her smile with the rest of the world.
Interesting also to hear more behind the scenes on Jamie and Annabel and the stuff that goes on off camera, models feelings etc. I just hope once they got over nerves, they both enjoyed it, cos it looked like they did!

Again liked it a lot today, perhaps cos some past favs in there. Amongst the things I liked:
Seeing the oh so cute and lovely Isabella again with her fantastic petite little curvy body and bush, really do agree with Cass on how nice she is.
The ever playful Cass showing another reason why models must like shooting with you guys (cos you always have lovely assistants, isn't that right Jamie?).
The beautiful Tali getting gradually yellower, a funny sight but still looks gorgeous.
The outline of spunky Ellen's curves against the window.
Just the setup for each shoot, its interesting to see the equiptment, placings etc that Abby uses.
The Cass story about Amelia did made me go "Awww" as well. Its a shame when someone truly loves a place, fits in and gets on with everyone and is making the most of her time there, that she cannot remain. I can't believe someone would not have helped her out in some capacity. Yet lets just be grateful that we 'crossed paths' and that we have quality images from Abby by which to remember this fetching young lady.

Liked the return of backstage today. As usual, good to see the outtakes, the girls goofing off, having a laugh and just some of the more mundane things which go into each shoot.
Also like seeing staffers like Susie and Cass again is great. Some of my favourites like Violet and Molly!
I particularly liked the Rouamali/Ruamali section. Not only because I thought she was pretty but also cos of pre-shoot photos of her and the location. Pic2841 is one I particularly appreciate, of Rouamali looking lost in thought.
Violet and her cat were a funny pair, just great. In fact I like both of the pussies on view! (Okay sorry for the crappy innuendo!)

okay now that this thread has been resurrected from the dead, something occurs to me: has anyone ever considered releasing an entire shoot -- bad shots, screw-ups, and all -- as a sort of "what it's really like" example? abby has said in the past that on some shoots she takes as many as 800 frames, yet on a standard blue set arsby will cut that to 250 tops. another dozen or so might show up in backstage sometime the next year, and the rest never see the light of day.
maybe put something like that in deviations, and remove only the pics that give away personal details (i.,e. no shots of the model holding up her ID), but leave the rest, including the fuzzy non-shots that always happen, just for the heck of it?

I was asking myself the same question last night. It would be instructive, and entertaining, to see a full set "warts and all." I'm not sure Abby would be happy with it as she's understandably particular about photo presentation. If I were a professional photographer I might not want anyone to see my dud photos either.
I believe, though, that the bigger issue isn't photo quality but redundancy. Abby's camera shoots something like eight frames per second and she shoots aggressively so editing mostly involves weeding out near duplicates.
If the programmer wasn't already up to his neck getting and keeping the site running efficiently I'd suggest that AW go one step further and create a mashup/remix page where we could each try our hand at editing a single full photoset down to 100-125 images. Probably more hassle than it's worth though. The easy part would be storing each remix as a string of indexes to the shots. The hard part would be creating the interface -- 800 thumbnails with checkboxes might be a bit, um, processor and bandwidth intensive! :-)

Hi,
I'm the lucky fellow who looks through the "raw" sets of the shoots and culls them down to a manageable size.
Raw shoots usually have between 500 and 1000 images. More for girl/girl and masturbation sets.
There is LOTS of duplication where Abby's trying to get just the right viewpoint, or just the right exposure, or just the right focus. Some sequences of these might be interesting for a student of photography, but for most of us (including me) they're repetitive and boring. You see the best shots.
There are a few pictures where the model is in between expressions, where her face (or pussy) is hidden by hair or another body part, closeups where you can't tell what you're looking at, images that are completely out of focus or badly over- or under-exposed.
My promise to you -- I don't leave any type of picture out.
Some of you like clothed sequences, some of you really like knickers, some of you like shots of the back, some of you like hands inside knickers, some of you like the nape of the neck, some of you like armpits, some of you (perverts, mostly) like the inside of the knee.
If Abby has taken a type of picture and at least one of them is in focus and exposed decently, you'll see it. Promise.

You've all done a great job with the site redesign. Things seem to be running pretty smoothly. So thanks.
Now that I've buttered you up, I've got a request for the backstage section. :-)
Since they're running sometimes more than a year after the model's shoots have appeared on the site I think it would be helpful to folks who haven't been around as long as some of us old-timers if you'd post links to the model's gallery page when you write up your commentary.
For example
4549 - 4556 Kasey (http://www.abbywinters.com/main.php?page=profile&model=329)
Cass: Before Kasey shot through, we did manage to get her back in for a redux shoot. That's why it all seemed so confusing that she never came that day, after visiting us twice. Very strange *strokes chin thoughtfully*. You have to admit, she has probably got the most amazing skin out of all our models. It's flawless. And she really is a total sweetheart, and was a lot of fun to hang with for an afternoon.

Sorry to start off on here with what is probably a stupid question, but as I go through the backstage area (which I love) I come across girls and have no idea who they are, as the descriptions to each photo don't seem to always make sense.
For example, can anyone tell me who this is?

Thanks!

That's the legendary Jamie (http://www.abbywinters.com/main.php?page=profile&model=240), who is our current head model liaison and video camera operator, amongst so many other things.
The reason she (and Cass, and Susie, and Danny, and Charlie, and sometimes a couple of others) keep reappearing in our backstage pics is because they are always present at each shoot.

Hi pixiepeapod,
Welcome to AW & the boards.
To answer your question: The nice lady is Jamie, former model & today member of AW staff.
You can find more of her here (http://www.abbywinters.com/main.php?page=profile&model=62), here (http://www.abbywinters.com/main.php?page=profile&model=240), here (http://www.abbywinters.com/main.php?page=profile&model=462), here (http://www.abbywinters.com/main.php?page=profile&model=138), here (http://www.abbywinters.com/main.php?page=profile&model=282), here (http://www.abbywinters.com/main.php?page=profile&model=401) and finally here (http://www.abbywinters.com/main.php?page=profile&model=391).

that's cos we're behind in editing the backstage pics, and we have just reached the end of a lot of work that we did a year a go. I am knee deep in editing new mackstage material now. There is so much work to be done on these (it's far and away the complex editing stuff we have to do), we try to do a few thousand at a time, cos it takes so long to get back in to the mindset, if you know what I mean.
Anyway, we'll have the samples again soon, prolly for next week. I hope.

I don't know whether it's galloping old age, or just Sunday morning sleepies sorta thing, but on viewing the Backstage 53, I find it difficult, as I have done with other b/s sets, to sort out just who is who. F'rinstance, the girl who appears to be non-white. The one pic in profile, shows the most astounding pair of hard, very erect nipples that even I have seen in a long time. So, which one is she? Try as I might, I can't correlate the image with the profile page. Which leads me to my point. Would it not be possible to insert on the profile page, along with the names and description, the numbers of the pics involved, in this case it is the set 5645 to 5648 incl. Just a thought, but also, maybe I missed something along the way in the past..

Strip21 outtakes! Love 'em! :D Elizabeth always had the best facial expressions of any model in the game. (If that "nice boy" she's settled down with is the reason she shaves now, he needs some treatment — Clockwork Orange style!)
Seeing Jamie in that test shoot in all those layers of black made me think she should have been the Final Showdown model for Strip 21: The Championship Series! :D

I just finished looking at the Backstage 53 set and I have a question.
Is that a partial shot of Abby on the left side of photo "backstage5695.jpg"?
Maybe if I carefully examine the backgrounds of all the other Backstage sets I could piece together a composite of her. Sadly if she takes all the photos, the only missing part will be her face covered by the camera. :(
Unless she uses a remote shutter! There may be hope after all. :D

I agree with what Drew and Jettman have said. We know that beauty's only skin deep. Also, that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And that it takes one to know one. Abby beholds that beauty in her models, and it's beauty that goes beyond the hot-looking blond on another site who might not have anything else going for her. Abby photographs her models in a way that shows their natural beauty to its fullest extent. For that alone, she is a beautiful person. And, Jettman, I had the same reaction to that pee photo. Being one of the most enthusiastic supporter of pee pics on this site, I'd love to see more -- if other girls are even capable anatomically of peeing that way.

I know that I mentioned this sometime ago, but I still believe that it would be an advantage to re-start the model identity picture numbering process in B/S if only so that we who are hampered by non-availability of hi-speed access can figure out who is who without wasting the entire day doing it by going back and forth like yo-yos. After all, in thumbs a blonde is a blonde, and many look similar until enlarged, and that takes time. And of course hair up or down, and lighting makes a huge diff to hair colour in thumbs. Todays batch I found particularly confusing, and I don't think it's just age. Maybe it's the fact that we got another 2" of snow o/n after I put my summer tires back on on Friday, I don't know. L

I notice in the information in some of the backstage bio you forget some shots like 'I forget all about this one and I forget about that one' can I make a suggestion. Sometimes I forget things when I work, or when I had a dream and when I want to write it down afterwards or when I wake up I forget all about it. My suggestion is can you keep a diary and write notes what you done and what happened durning the shot no matter how big or small it is. Its only a suggestion and maybe alread told you about it. When we tell people what we do for a living, they have a bit of a distorted idea of what goes on behind the scenes during a shoot. Backstage is where you can see the truth, with images showing the team at work, as well as commentary describing some of the events surrounding it all.
Thanks for clearing that up. I had this really distorted view that there was nothing but hanky panky going on backstage. ;)

Abby did Emelia made that much of an impact to you that when you took some photos of her in the start of Backstage 77 that she made you nervous or the camera is too slow to respond? I think is the former.
Damn!! I thought the you Abby got busted. Bugger. Why I said that because nearly at the end of backstage with Eugenia when Verity took a shot of the window and window reflex back I though it was you. But it was Verity. Buggar. You are a hard woman to catch!!
To finish of that is a great sample shot of Backstage 78 in coming nextweek section on the left.

I was just wondering are Anthea’s pics in the backstage 78 form a redux set that hasn't been uploaded yet or just extra pics from her first redux videos.

Darth Dave, all the images you see in the backstage section are from sets already at the site.
No "sneak previews" there.
In some cases the "tone" of a backstage set is serious, so the non-serious backstage outtakes form a sort of a "shadow set". But still, no sneak previews.

I am reeling from the revelation that a) there was a car being washing during a shoot with b) Anthea and that A and B were not placed in close proximity.:(:( Anyone who has seen Cool Hand Luke knows whereof I speak... Hey--neighbors can be bribed...

What a fun set! Chloe B and Rosanna look like they were having a blast as well as verity
Toward the end there is some excellent advice posted on a sign: "Pedestrians give way to trams"
Rosanna, is that an engagement ring you are flashing in pic 8789?
I tried my best CSI image enhancement techniques on the text on the phone in pic 8804, but I cannot read the text.
Thanks Ladies!!!! :o <3

Of course, you never get red-eye on AW.com, but it looks like Chloe has a case of red-nipple (http://www.abbywinters.com/main.php?page=image&index=112&shoot=2447)! :p

I got a feeling Abby that you are running out of backstage material? Or is just me?

hi
As you can see, we debuted the Backstage section of abbywinters.com today. I am very keen to hear your opinions! There is heaps more material to come, of course. What is there currently is just a taste.
As I am about to start shooting again in Melbourne, ideas for the type of shots you'd like to see in the future are welcome!
abbyI liked it very much, but I would have liked to see naked the photographer too.Bye.

Why I said that because in the last two backstage there are less models then the usuall. Thats all. Also it wasn't long time ago that we had that G/G shot of Chloe B & Rosanna and I might me afraid that the backstage might catch up. You never know, one of the last week new models like Marianne will be showing up in four weeks in backstage.

gerza,
there are fewer models cos we have more good images per shoot (I reckon). I never edit the BS sets down, in fact, I do no look at the image count at all when editing, it just comes down to how many pics I reckon should be keepers. With suh good subject matter, you can imagine that there's going to be a lot from the chloe and rosanna shoot.
As you suspect, we are catching up (cos this time last year, we were adding no backstage. So from now on, we're going to add one backstage set every few weeks, and in the other weeks, we're going to add IM videos.
And holy fucking shit, there are some awesome vids there. Sorry you're still on dialup, dude. :/

It's rough. Some ISP's will drop you offline if you are on for longer than a specified limit. Luckily my uni has a server that doesn't do that. The long load time is worth it, tho. I just turn on the cell phone, start the download before bedtime, and when I get up, very pleasant things are on my screen. :)
Abby, thanks for more Rosanna/Chloe pics. The facial portraits of Rosanna are truly lovely. And Chloe gets prettier every time I see her.

You can even see her in a passionate encounter with Sue! :)

I've just noticed, although it might have been changed lately, why is it that there are no backstage this week and next week. It's a custom to have it every sunday for so long, that I was wondering why it's not there.
Maybe someone could give me an answer?

Of course, it might have something to do with the fact that I view my posts most recent first.
Here (http://forums.abbywinters.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?postid=43605#post43605) is what Artlover was talking about.
