To be perfectly clear, what I meant was that just as girls (for example, you) sometimes feel like penetration, in the sense of being penetrated, when they're on their own and use a vibrator or dildo to satisfy that need, boys (for example, me) sometimes feel like penetration, in the sense of penetrating, when they're on their own and use a toy like the Fleshlight to satisfy this need. So yes, while it should be seen as equally violating (from the object's point of view) to be penetrated or inserted, insertion is a lot less confronting and biologically has fewer consequences. of course penetration is not necessarily an act of domination, but because being penetrated can have more biological consequences than being inserted, and because a man has to be turned on to penetrate but a woman doesn't have to be to be penetrated, penetration is more frequently dominatory than insertion is.

Of course, in a society with tyrannical women running around, putting pressure on men when they are weak and drunk or whatever, perhaps the act of insertion would also come to be seen as violating in more cases. But of course, if the man is not aroused, there's not much to insert is there? ;) ...oh how i miss those 19-year-olds who could just keep coming back for more...

This may be unrelated but I remember one ex-bf who disliked me putting my tongue too deeply into his mouth. He like French kissing so long as our tongues hovered around the midway point. Triple J had an article on hack about hetro couples that use strap ons.

Can't remember all of it but one of the points made was to do with this idea that men view being penatrated as being gay. The point the report made was that, in the US at least, penatration wasn't universal amongst gay men and in fact anal sex between gay couples may have been less common that hetro couples.

I think the reality is that allowing another person on the end of something hard (plastic or otherwise) to jabbing it anywhere requires trust. I'd be surprised if this was too common in Western countries nowadays but what do I know.

I can understand; I had a somewhat conservative upbringing as well, so most of my teenage years were spent being prudish and ignorant. I actually started getting into masturbation when I was 16, but it took several years after that for me to shake away all the guilt about doing it. It doesn't help that wanker is a commonly-used insult in Australian parlance!

I actually figured* it out mostly for myself as well, which I think is a small accomplishment; my high-school sex ed. classes had only lightly skimmed on the subject, and my parents never talked about it. I wish sex ed. classes would focus more on the reasons why people choose to do it (ie. what can be achieved from it emotionally, etc), rather than just informing us of the physical practice, nothing more (which can give younger teenagers the idea that it's a "deviant" practice if they get offended by the details).

Heh, it was several years ago, but basically, the way I discovered it was more or less like how Gabrielle described her boyfriend's situation. I should mention that guys can actually benefit from pelvic floor muscle training as well (IIRC it's known as the pubococcygeus muscle, or "PC" for short), it helps you hold back the orgasm better and build up more intensity. I find I can also let the build up last longer, if I stop resisting the pre-orgasm spasm tendencies (leg tremors, pulsed breathing), and let them dissipate out rather than concentrate in.

Isn't sexual response driven purely by mind-mapping? I've also heard of stories where people have overindulged in certain fetishes, to the point that they can only orgasm through that particular fetish.

It's been a long time since I've done that! I know I've always been able to recall the dreams (just like regular non-sexual ones), but as for the ejaculation, I was either completely unaware of it until after the fact (when I'd fully regained consciousness), or if I did wake up and interrupt the dream, it would sometimes happen while I was still slowly returning to consciousness. Others' mileage might vary.

Okay, I can't remember any specific dreams in particular, as I normally don't remember most dreams after a few days, unless they have extraordinary relevance to real life. I get the same thing! If I go for around 3-6 days without doing it, then I'll have one of those aforementioned episodes in the middle of night where I wake up and feel a sudden compulsion to do it. The orgasm is almost always more pleasurable in that regard, and it's much easier to fall back asleep.

I think this phenomenon is probably caused by the body wanting to release excess build-up of sexual tension. I never feel ashamed for doing this, and I think you shouldn't either. Don't see it as "giving in to temptation", rather more as a routine measure to keep your mind in good spirits.
