Hey I was just wondering where Abby got all those icons for the site Model Lists?
examples: 610261036104
They are so cute, perhaps one of the Abby staff members actually made them? Would love to know....

You have to pay me 50c for every time you double click on them.
I actually made a new one just a couple of weeks ago, for the new "Video By" Lists.

They are very cool and do look really cute. Which of the characters are people's favourites (probably best if you refer to them by hair colour).
I didn't know that everytime we click on a muff we inflate Vid Dude's bank balance by 50c, good deal you got there sir.

Phew, lucky I have my computer set up in single click mode or I would be in trouble.... cool, when will we get to see this new icon?
Invoices can be sent to: 123 Fake Street, Funtown, South Nowhere, Mars, Zip: 746j5 ;)
Seriously though, was that your idea to do those icons Vid Dude?

P.S. Would like to hear from the members which icon is their favourite? I'm still deciding, so I'll let you know...

I can't remember. Most likely it was not my initial idea to have them in the first place, but my idea to make the designs so colourful and cartoony. I didn't get much of a chance to do stylisation in my graphics like that, so I made the most of the opportunity.

Hey I was thinking, now that Vid Dude has gone, what's gunna happen if any new categories open up and we need more cool little icons? Could be a chance for someone else at AWHQ to try out graphic art skills, perhaps Webdude could try since he's now doing wallpapers... Or perhaps we can pry Vid Dude away from the tropical islands to come and make some more....

We'll just have to declare a moratorium on new categories, 'cause I love Vid Dude's cartoons.

That is a fantastic idea artie! But first tell me what a moratorium is.... Maybe Vid Dude made a whole heap of back up icons anyway, in case certain new categories appeared?

Well, when you have some torium, and then you get some more, you have moratorium! OW! Stop hitting me! OWWWW!
OK, serious answer: A moratorium (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=moratorium&x=0&y=0) is a temporary suspension of an activity. It's often used in connection with government affairs.

The question is, why don't people simply say "a temporary suspension of XXXX...."? :)

It makes them sound smarter to say moratorium. A guy once told me that you can tell how smart someone is by how long they can talk without saying anything.:)

Well, the word comes from Latin, so I guess that at some point in the past, when people said "moratorium" they were saying "a temporary suspension of" and the usage carried over into English. That's happened a lot in certain professions, like the law.
Back on topic: You may have lost your artist, but not the art, and it may be easier for AW to create new icon variants than you think. Many of the icons use common parts, like the smiling faces, and Vid Dude may have left those elements separate so that future artists could assemble new icons quickly, just by altering details as needed.
I create a lot of digital art, and that's how I would have composed these icons, for my own convenience as well as anyone else's.

I loved looking at the site model icon list, but now it is bouyed by pictures of cameras as everyone is jostling for praise and credit,
Melinda

Wow, there are a lot of cameras now chief... but I guess we gotta give credit were it's due, plus a number of people seem to be interested in who shot which set...

Hey,
I am one of those people who is interested in who shot what. However maybe at some point in the future these could be moved to a separate list from what we used to call the 'categories'.

Yeah that's a good idea SF, perhaps this could be a category in itself entitled "Site Photographer lists"? That way all the shoots are categorised by who shot them, then in the site Model lists this can just be for various categories according to content...

So the people who want to know who is holding the video camera, are these the same people who need to know who the cameraman is on the credits of a movie ? the seperate list is a good idea,or there could be caricature sketches, abby can be a silouette.

Thanks Melinda.
Hey Chief, yeah I am quite interested in the way films/video is shot and who shot them but of course my main focus with AW videos is on the actual action and the participant(s). I just like to see credit where it's due and think it would be a good idea as Melinda says to have a separate "Site Photographer/Videographer list" of a "Shoot Credits list". Anyway call me a nerd if you will but I like knowing about the technical side of things. I do agree that the categories are getting a bit lost and I use them a lot too, so maybe it's a good idea to separate the two things out.
I did find your idea about caricature sketches funny. :D Maybe they could be sexy cartoon representations of the actual people, like their superheroine alter egos. In the same way as the cartoon people in the categories icons are quite endearing.

Yeah that's a cool idea too! Perhaps each of the photographers/videographers could be asked to sketch their own little self-portrait to be used for the lists... would be interesting to see how they choose to represent themselves

This won't work for all cases, esp not videos, but on the list of shoots on the sitemap (http://www.abbywinters.com/main.php?page=sitemap) maybe they could add a column with the photographer's initials, and the ability to sort by photographer by clicking the column header.
