    The Future?

Having just watched the movie Avatar for the umpteenth time I am still amazed by the advances in CG technology in the past few years. And there are yet more to come!

It leaves me wondering when or if the technology will impact on the world of erotica, when CG becomes so real that live models are no longer necessary. It seems likely that it will eventually become impossible to distinguish graphics from the real thing. Obviously current technology and costs preclude the use of CG but could there come a time when what we see is the result of the imagination of the CG artist and not the videographer?

The possibility does raise some very interesting questions.

    A fascinating future perhaps?

I've always liked the idea of "build your own porn"-- like if you went to a website that started off with the basic female form and then you customize it, like you can adjust the size and shape of her breasts, change the proportions, choose her eye and hair color, add random things like freckles or braces etc... Then you pick a genre of sex scene and tag any fetishes, for example girl-girl with foot play, and then the program creates the scene for you like interactive porn! I guess we probably have the technology for this already, but it would cost way too much to make it available to the public.

As I recall, the movie Avatar required so much processing power, that they had a building set up with many computers in it running 24 hours day, to do the processing required. That's probably why the movie cost $280 million to make. Of course, if you look back in time, it cost a fortune to create and edit video....now you can do it on your home computer for next to nothing. Manipulating photos by air brushing them was expensive, now you can do it in a matter of minutes with Photoshop.

Heck, while I'm sure it cost a lot to make today, the latest "Fast and Furious' movie used CG to add the late Paul Walker to the movie, as he was an integral part of that franchise. That technology, while expensive today, will eventually become affordable for the average person. To adapt technology like that to the porn industry will probably be a simple, easy to do method.

Some years ago, I downloaded a free trial of a program that allowed you to select the size and shape of a woman and a man, and you could manipulate them having sex in various positions, locations, etc. I don't remember the name of that program, but, while fun to play with, the man and woman didn't look like real people...they just looked like computer generated imitations of people, similar to what the athletes look like in those computer football video games.

3D CG softwares have gotten to be somewhat more affordable these days, including some of the softwares that even the big companies use to produce CG imagery for their movies & what-not. One of the softwares I use here is rather powerful, as you can see by the examples I'll post below. These still-picture renders didn't take all that long for me to put together and it was all fun.

Although these renders are quite lifelike and can demonstrate the degree of realism some of these softwares are capable of, still I forsee that actual live modeling is an artform that will not likely be replaced by CG technology. People want real and CG can't come close to that so I can anticipate that the art of live modeling and acting will always be the preference in the future.

I agree people want real Wolfgang. At the moment CG is nowhere near good enough but what happens when and if CG matches reality and the cost is competitive? Interesting question and maybe that time is not so far away.

Another aspect of it is the new possibilities of 3D printing. Could AW consider sometime in the future offering 3D printouts of their models on a premium, a-lacarte basis? Maybe not full-scale in the initial offerings but It would be quite the novelty and the unequeness of the offer could put AW on the map as being the first site to offer such a novelty.

I floated this idea once here - it didn't go anywhere, but I still think the future will be filled with 3D-printed innovations, and it will occur to people to replicate all or parts of themselves or other people, like when camcorders first became available and they were pointed at all manner of activities - far beyond weddings, birthday parties and the kids' sporting events.
