I love Australia and all the wonderful people I have met while on numerous trips to Oz, but right now, Australia definitely should be ashamed of itself. As Jacki and Lux have said so eloquently, there is simply no reason at all that any adult should be told by any government what material they can peruse. Obscenity is just one person's opinion and to be in a position of power, such as a person in a position to pass legislation and therefore "enforce" one's opinion on others, disregarding what anyone else may think, is the worst abuse of power possible, and in my book, a hideous crime. Let's hope that one day, people will wake up, and not only repeal such hurtful legislation, but punish those responsible by removing them from office permanently and perhaps hand out some heavy fines and jail time. Knowingly denying adults their right to choose the material they wish to view deserves such punishment.
And btw, I sure hope that internet filter legislation doesn't go through in Australia. I refuse to have a legislated internet filter. If that ever happened here, the internet for me would be history. I'd never use it again.
