Does AW educate T3 models on oral sex cancer risks?

There is a growing body of evidence that shows that certain strands of HPV viruses can cause oropharyngeal cancer in men and women. According to the CDC, almost all sexually active people will get one type of HPV in their lifetime. In addition to oral cancers, it is associated with a lot of other nasty cancers as well, particularly cervical cancer. The risk for these cancers increase significantly as you have more sexual partners and get exposed to different types of HPV. Smoking and drinking further increase this risk. Unfortunately HPV is often symptom free and there is currently no way to test for oral HPV exposure. There are some vaccines like Gardasil that can protect against some strains (including the most likely cancer causer: 16) but do most women get this? People of my generation and older are pretty much S.O.L on the vaccine, but millenials are generally able to safely and effectively use the vaccine.

As an ethical leader in the adult industry, AW could be a trailblazer in safer sex. In hardcore scenes are condoms and dental dams available for the models to use? The mainstream industry is rapidly being browbeaten into using condoms by organizations like the AIDS Healthcare Foundation and I really think that within 5 years all scenes shot in California will use things like condoms and dental dams. So why not be a leader in positive change before this? One thing I really enjoy about AW is that it seems to be ahead of the pack in producing quality ethical pornography.

It would be quite tragic if any models here would acquire a cancer later in their lives from the T3 scenes they shot for this site.

Hey Panaflex! Thanks for bringing up an awkward topic; it's not often that people take the interest in this very important side of what we do. The emerging data you referenced is something we have our eye on, though as yet the evidence correlating oral sex with an increased incidence of cancer is inconlusive; so as not to cause a panic, it's extremely important that we only act on rock solid info.

As to our policy on dental dams; they are not currently an option on Girl-Girl scenes; though that may change in the future.

We do take sexual health very seriously here at abbywinters, and have very rigorous policy and procedure to match this attitude. All models in hardcore shoots absolutely must be 'in test' (had a completed STI test no more than a month before the shoot). Additionally we do educate all models on STIs, and the risks of shooting Girl-Girl scenes. We can proudly say that we have never compromised or risked a model's health to do a scene.

The one exception to this is that in the case of real-life couples, the couple may elect to sign a waiver indicating that they in this specific case do not require an STI test, as they are having sex with their regular sexual partner. This is often the case with the real-life couples featured in our Girl-Boy section.

The idea of mandatory condoms or dental dams is one that doesn't sit well with us, though; as one of the pilalrs of what we try to do is to capture the natural expression of genuine human sexuality. Once essential health concerns have been addressed with an STI test and education on risk factors, we would really rather not impose regulations on how two models wish to have sex.

I think it'd be great to hear from some of the models on this, if any of you guys are reading, you should give us your two cents!

I wouldn't want to use a dental dam.
I know the girls I've worked with are std free and it would take away my enjoyment.
I don't use them in real life with my partner or on any other girl/girl shoot.
You have more chance of getting mouth cancer by smoking and since I don't smoke The chances of getting it are next to none. Doing 5 or 6 girl/girl shoots a year won't give me cancer.
I very much doubt a girl would get cancer from a T3 shoot from this site.
I've never had an std but am tested regularly for work purposes.

I think sexual heath is a pretty big issue and it often goes ignored because its not seen as sexy, I agree largely with Pippa I dont really ever use protection with my boyfriend because it can take away from the sexiness and enjoyment and I know that AWs does take the issue seriously, but in saying all that I think it would be cool to see some shoots where people whether in in girl/ girl or girl/ boy shoots use protection. Its a great way to show that safe sex can be sexy and fun and encourage healthy practices, particularly if you dont really know your partner, plus it adds variety.

I don't mind seeing condoms on the penis but the dental dam would certainly spoil it for me whether in real life or videos. It's only been in the recent years and particularly with the claim by Micheal Douglas's throat cancer that it is now making the headlines.I did however have a cold sore on my upper lip which would make itself present only when i had a cold once a year. ( It seems to have disappeared with age. ) I wonder if i first contracted it by oral sex in my teen years or just kissing on the lips ?...probably either/or...i even wonder if it's hereditary ?

I have to take sexual health seriously for work purposes, I have to take tests every 3 months by law, the law in Melb changed recently due to overwhelming negative results in tests for sex workers. I'm still used to doing the monthly Blood tests and swabs, and a throat swab for good measure. I don't feel comfortable doing the tests 3 monthly (as i've found is the case for many of my co-workers) and so i continue to take the tests monthly. I think its great when couples choose to use condoms in shoots. I think its great to promote safe sex wherever possible. I'm not so sure the dams will take off in porn. you just dont get to see the excitement produced by couple. I love the taste of a beautiful woman and if she's in test then i have no worries about safety. I have used Dams Previously at work as i do see a lot of couples but the sexual energy lessens when your licking plastic! Many choose to go with out and try out some of my many other talents.
I've always been a condom girl, even with long term boyfriends. I'm a fan of the mess they contain. I've also had an implanon implant for 9 yrs now and i also had the gardasil injections. In victoria women from the ages of i think 16 to 25 were offered the shots for free. We are very lucky to have great sexual health care in melbourne a lot of it free.

I think its a real problem that you can't just use a condom with an other girl. I am all for safe sex, thats really important. But the dental dam seems really unappealing to me. I've never had to use it because I've always had sex with girls who where recently tested. But then again I haven't slept with that many girls. Just taking someone home that you just met would be a problem. It's not very casual to agree to do a test and meet up later after the results come in if your not working up to a relationship but just want to have a night of fun together. Nevertheless I would never take the risk, its just not worth it. So I think I will try the dental dam. Maybe its not so bad after all and you can make it fun. I'll tell you how the experience was if I have tried it. But I don't know if I will be casually meeting up with a girl anytime soon.. I would love to though.. xxx Noa

I just thought of an other thing thats important with safe sex: not touching the others genitals and then your own. So fingering an other girl thats not tested would be a problem too even though you use a dental dam for the oral sex. Gloves would be an option or being really aware that you shouldn't touch yourself with one of your hands. Very difficult..

I'm curious how other girls deal with this? Do you always get tested and if not how do you have safe sex with an other girl? anyone experience with the dental dams?

I know this gets very technical about sex but being safe means you're only left with the fun side of sex and you can really let go.

It's really hard to make an informed decision when the information out there is so scarce, and not fully backed up by the healthcare systems.

I wanted to get hold of some dental dams... not for safer sex, mind, but because I like the feel of latex. It was nigh on impossible - had to order them online. All of the services that gave out free condoms (GUM clinics etc) didn't provide dental dams.

If a partner wanted to use dental dams, I would happily oblige. For me, I make a risk assessment and consider it worth the risk of having oral sex without barriers. I reduce the risk by keeping the number of sexual partners low, and by STD testing, although that doesn't include HPV testing. I can't get vaccinated at my age unless I pay a lot of money.

I have unprotected sex with three people on a regular basis - my boyfriend, who I have been with for six years, my girlfriend who I have been with for four years and who gets tested every month because of her adult work, and my other boy. If any of our history changes, we get tested.

I think so many things carry an inherent risk in life, and it's up for people to make the choice that's right for them. I would never want to go beyond a partner's comfort zone in terms of what the were happy with. It would be great if barrier protection in porn and real life was de-stigmatised - often people are negative about anything that reminds them of STDs. People emulate porn without knowing that the average adult model is clued up on risks and rigorous about testing.

I like the double intimate moments videos that AW produces because they depict another way I love to have fun with partners - it doesn't always have to be about oral or even penetrating each other with fingers; sometimes just being sexual alongside someone and swapping fantasies and masturbating is great. I applaud efforts to show a wider spectrum of sexuality and sex which isn't just penetration and oral. (although that is amazing too!)

I may have drifted over a few topics there, but as you can see from the responses, safer sex is something that AW girls feel strongly about :-)
