    no makeup?

A key aspect of abbywinters.com shoots is the models wear very little makeup - sometimes mascara, but apart from that, none. Of course, we never use photoshop to fix blemishes.

Sometimes, we turn models away when they arrive for their shoot with grooming problems that makeup would fix (to book them for another shoot), other times we shoot them anyway (eg, Elva). Some potential models refuse to work with us, because they cannot wear makeup.

What are your thoughts on this rule? Could we relax it a little - some eye liner, coverup for blemishes, a little lipstick? Or is it better how it has always been?

Regardless of the votes and comments, we're not going to do a complete turn-around on our makeup stance, but it's good to know what our customers think!

Absolutely not. Keep it as it is now (sometimes, mascara, but nothing else)

    Hi all
I like Abby winters how it is now, the fact that models don't wear heaps of make up on set is part of what makes abbyvwinters unique, not wearing makeup also shows natural beauty.
I like how the models never wear makeup this should definitely continue, models should continue coming to AWs without makeup and only be allowed to put on some light foundation to cover up blemishes that would otherwise mean they could not do a shoot. If AWs models wear to much makeup AWs could loose some of its originality.
I like the After dark shoots a lot and think it looks really elegant, but that's a special section for AWs not what the whole site is about.

The dilemma occurs when a bright-eyed bushy-tailed model with a knock out body and vibrant personality is turned down.. It's a shame and a peril poor Misha has to enforce occasionally. I don't think it would blemish or disrupt the AW'S Paradigm in any way ( similar to the now accepted and occasional tattoo shoot) to have a model appear occasionally with a little more than the accepted amount of make up.

What made the site unique worked for ten years, I think it should work for ten more. I would hate to see AW become just another porn site by eroding its uniqueness.

After Dark was conceived as a more glamorous alternative right? Couldn't these models do some new AD shoots?

Personally, I wouldn't have a problem with a model wearing a little make... as in what they would normally wear if they were going shopping.

Therefore that puts me in the "A little more than current might be ok sometimes" area.

I prefer little to none anywhere as well as on this site. I've seen magazine photos of Snooki and Kim Kardashian (not sure if they are known outside the US) that were making a big deal of how they were 'caught' without makeup - they looked fine to me, even better. I got to like Claudia S. a lot and learned at one point she had a web site where she demonstrated how to apply makeup. I thought she was naturally very cute and couldn't figure why she would think she should use it. I like Elva and will be posting to her thread -I noticed the skin blemishes right away that I think are referenced above but wasn't bothered as I was struck by how much this made her natural and accessible, for want of a better word, imagining we could be intimate

I voted for this "A little more than current might be ok sometimes"
But I take the "little more" and the "sometimes" seriously...

Got to take care to define 'blemish' very narrowly though. A hard rule like 'no makeup' is easier in that regard.

The thing I like about abby winters models is that they are comfortable in their own skin. There is beauty in all but for me there is nothing more beautiful than confidence and ease in your body. This doesn't mean shy people are not attractive in my eyes, quite the opposite, you can be shy around other people and still be sure in yourself. I always look at make up as a mask to hide behind, some masks are very pretty and heck when I need to feel powerful I will don the eye liner but raw honesty has a delicate quality that I really appreciate.

If it allows AW to release more shoots per week, it could be ok.
But the makeup must only be used to hide some imperfections.

I agree with Masie, we see plenty of beautiful young women come through our doors, hiding behind their 'beauty masks'. After their first abbywinters.com shoot sans make up they are so happy with the pics and sometimes surprised at how much more beautiful they are without make up. If we allow make up, then we should reconsider 'relaxing' the rules on plastic or cosmetic surgery, if it is only subtle then it should be fine.. right?

Went for the middle choice of a little more make up,really don't think a woman plastered in make up is attractive but I do have male friends who love women with lots of lipstick and mascara on,personal choice I guess.

It's a bit extreme perhaps, but aren't they both ends of a (long) scale ? To fix perceived imperfections.

What are imperfections, to whom ? How much do you want to cover?

Having said that I don't *mind* a little bit of make-up, if the model insist on it. I can't imagine 'grooming issues' which would make me skip a shoot (I do remember Jamie many years ago did a shoot when she had fallen of her skateboard the day before and was still bruised- good conversation topic! ;-).

I would have liked to be able to wear a little bit of make-up, besides mascara. I would say I keep a pretty natural look generally anyway, even when I 'doll up'. I don't like the look of tons of make-up either, but a little bit of powder to even out skin tone and take away some pinkness can make a nice difference, as well as cover up some mild blemishes. Also, my skin always breaks out worse under stress, so you can imagine things can go a bit haywire if you're about to go on camera doing something for the first time! Because of this I tend to feel like I don't look my best for some of my shoots. I think it is much easier for a model to happily go make-up free if she has been blessed with clear skin whereas for those of us still in a continuous battle with our skin it is probably a much more sensitive issue.

Heh... this is an interesting discussion. I personally like the no make-up thing that Abby has. It was actually one of the things that drew me to them. But then, I feel uncomfortable wearing make-up. I'll sometimes wear mascara in the real world, but lately, I haven't even bothered with that. My discomfort hinges on what Masie said: I feel like it's a mask. I feel like in wearing make-up, I hide the real me, and give people who meet me an inaccurate impression, not just of the way I look, but of who I am as a person. I guess that's my holistic approach kicking in. That being said, there is one situation in which I would wear make-up and feel comfortable, and that's when the whole point of the exercise is to be someone else. In that sense, perhaps it's not such a bad thing for shoots in which we are presented as edited versions of ourself, anyway, but I do think the Abby aesthetic is a thing worth preserving. My personal stance is that I'm cool with make-up if it's not really noticeable. I know of at least one Abby girl who has managed to sneak past the grooming check while wearing foundation, and nobody noticed. The only reason I knew was because she pointed it out to me, and I saw her put it on. In a case like that, I'd say go for it. After Dark does give us a little niche where we can appreciate a little more paint.

The natural look and no make up was what drew me to AW. Don't change it. Garion was right to start up that way it made AW different and refreshing from all the other sites. It was a good idea then and it still is now.

+1 for GandalfG. If I would want models with makeup, there are so many other sites that are filled with that. Having natural girls is the entire reason I joined and wish to support this site - the value that this promotes - stay natural! The models who refuse to work without makeup are not comfortable in who they are.

And Elva was great! i loved her shoot!

I really like that AW is very natural and real, but at the same time I think sometimes a small amount of make up for example mascara and a basic foundation wouldn't break AW style or make the model look "done up". That small amount of foundation can reduce some of the redness in some models faces (including my own) quite smoothly, and I know I've gotten comments from viewers in other shoots I've done saying I look great with no make up when I'm actually wearing just enough to remove the redness from my face.
But yeah...AW works fantastically now and really is something quite different to all the other porn sites and I wouldn't want to see it lose that.

Personally, the thing about abbywinters that drew me in as a potential model was that the models all looked like me! Just normal girls, without makeup on, without a perfect six-pack, or air-brushed skin, or whitened teeth, or a super-all-over-tan. I thought that lots of the girls were way prettier than me, but not in a way that made me feel too shy to apply. This might sound strange, but I feel like the lack of makeup was a way of the site saying, "We don't care that you're not really sure how to put makeup on properly, or that you don't work out at the gym, or that you're not always super-confident. It's ok that you're a bit of a dag, we really do want you!"

Although, having been in Misha's shoes, I do know how heart-wrenching it can be to turn someone away when a bit of foundation might have fixed it - although this is hardly a regular occurrence!

Hmmm.... I guess I think that what a few people have said is a good point, "How much is a little?" at what point do you say "No, that's too much" and what do you do if a model feels like another model was allowed to wear more makeup than her? None at all means that there's no risk of confusion.

If an otherwise lovely girl would refuse to model without makeup then I suggest she be allowed to wear what she needs to feel comfortable. That is not the same as weraing makeup especially for the photoshoot. If she refuses to model then we all miss out. If she's wearing makeup and some of us don't quite like it, well so be it, we can't like all the models on the site, makeup or not, that wouldn't be normal.

Thanks for a great site. AW is on a roll at the moment, I'm enjoying it.

I agree that AW is better without all the make-up. I also like girls to look more natural. I wear a little mascara on most days but thats about it. Off course there are some days that I like to experiment with some make-up for a party or something but not to much.
However, I do think slightly covering a blemish doesn't do any harm. I sometimes worry before a shoot that my skin will break out or something and I won't be able to shoot and that would be a shame because I always really look forward to it.
