Times change, or What the hell happened?

I saw this picture and I reflected that 20 years ago I would have thought it was really hot, and now I'm distracted by the hair that is now usually not there.

When did we start EXPECTING pubic hair to disappear, anyway?

I think we started to expect to see clean shaven pubes when commercial porn makers decided we needed to see the pussy lips and a clear view of penetration. It most of the old porn you could see the guy thrusting but the girls had so much hair that you couldn't see through the hair. So the porn makers decided that they were giving us something extra by shaving the women so we could see "more".

Personally I don't care for the shaved look. If it doesn't have hair how can we call it a pussy? But let's face it ....the hair represents womanhood while the shaved look represents pre-teen years. Now I don't know about you but I only drooled after pre teen girls when I was a preteen also. As an adult I want to see other adults. Frankly, my opinion is that adult women with pubic hair smell better, taste better and look better than pubescent bald girls.

It always amazes me that something so simple as a persons hair cut can be so distracting and cause such violently large reactions from people. When I see this picture I see breasts, natural wetness and a woman clearly into the pleasure she is giving. I don't see hair or no hair. Angry people blame porn for the lack of pubic hair on woman in recent years and I must say I find this a little insulting as a woman - I pick how I style my own hair thanks and I make this decision based on that same things I do with the hair on my head, I look in the mirror and I decide what I feel like and run with it till I get bored and try something else.

How sad the world is that when we see people engaged in an activity we look past their emotions, the excitment of the situation they are in and go straight to if we like the number of pubes they are displaying. If that was all I thought people wanted to see when I got my clothes off I won't bother putting any effort in, i'd just do a poll to see how you wanted my hair styled.

Scary thing is that 20 years ago was 1993... (how time flies) and that would have been in the shaven era, if playboy centerfolds are anyway of judging.

I prefer pubic hair... and I do find myself saying a little "yay" in my head if a model has some... But it doesn't stop me enjoying the shoots of those that don't. Nor does it stop a model appearing in my "favourite models list".

          Hi all

My this Is quite an interesting read!
I like the points you raises masie, it's very much a choice and personal preference thing and it is very much a sad state of affairs when people make so many judgements based on a persons pubic hair, my hair style also changes depending on my perfences at the time.
It's interesting how opinions on pubic hair have changed over the years, for men too, more men shave or veet now.
Personally I like to shave or when I have hair keep it well groomed.
I remember reading once for gender studies the impact of porn industry in every day life and in our sex lives, which related a lot to what you were saying redsails.

Have you gotten violent reactions about how you or others style their pubic areas? I noticed -- with a little surprise -- that my own reactions have changed in a way I did not expect, and invited discussion on how things have changed. I chose a single, isolated picture to illustrate this and asked my question.

Please accept my apologies if you were offended.

            Best regards,

Personally I like both shaven and unshaven. I think I'm more of a breast person anyway. I really don't hold the porn industry responsible for more shaven areas. I just think it has to do with what a person feels comfortable with like Masie said. I also agree with Alex that more men shave and veet too. I mean I shave because I don't like to be too hairy. A few times a week I remove facial hair but also hair from my hands and fingers, because I think it looks and feels way better.

Nothing said in this thread has offended me I am sorry If I came across as abit to angry and defensive. The truth is this is an argument I have seen and been part of to many times and so I think I have lost a little patience for it - which is a failing on my part no one elses sorry. I am very much open to everyone having their own preferrence on all things in life I am just baffled by how often this part of the body seems to make people mad.

Yes I have had some very strong reactions to pubic hair and none pubic hair. I once had a 'stud' drive 6 hours to do a porn scene with me and then walk off set as soon as I go my knickers off and he saw I had a full bush - this move not only cost him that days work but potentially his whole job in porn as the UK is a small industry and it is very hard for males to get a break let alone ones who pull silly things like that. Equally when I worked as a web cam model I had a man get very upset that I was shaved saying it felt wrong like he was talking with a child.

What I look for when I see errotic content is authentisity - if the performers are into a scene, I can get into the scene no matter how they look. If they look like they are groaning through the motions or are planning what they want for dinner when they get home I don't care what they look like I am still not interested.

I have to have at least some attraction to the performers if a scene is to register above "meh" for me. Maybe that's why I only like about 1-2% of the porn I see, although a few sites shatter that low percentage (AW!). I gotta find that perfect marriage of looks and "passion" that lets me get over the absurdity of what porn is.

I wonder if OP realises that people come in all sizes, shapes and colours these days. A woman can be beautiful whether her pubic area is bushy, bald or anywhere in-between and I myself don't the range and variety.

One thing that AW does best is bring to the site a sense of all-natural beauty in each of their models and around here they do come in all shapes, sizes and colours and I wanna fall in love with every one of 'em.

To me I see bush is a natural thing and naturally bush varies greatly from person-to-person so one has to stop and think that if all models had to look one certain way then this world would be quite the boring place.

When I grew up all of the women I dated had pubic hair and any porn I watched the girls were the same,i think it was about 10 years ago when I started seeing pictures of women without pubes and I have to say I wasn't keen obviously because it wasn't something I was used to seeing, however over time I have come to love seeing women without pubic hair,i think it really lets you see the shape and beauty of a vagina.
My partner regularly flips between pubic hair and no hair and i'm happy with either

Yes, I know this. My observation was based in MY OWN changed perceptions. How people groom themselves is a private matter. I was surprised by my own distraction by the now-usually-absent hair.

Might this shift have anything to do with your location? After all, there aren't many pubes left in the valley...

I have rather Strong opinions on the Pubic hair debate.
I cant really agree that its the fault of the porn business. Well not entirely anyways. I know magazines like playboy and hustler were big in introducing the clean shaven look. But I think if you really have a good look at porn today your more likely to find a more equally balanced mix of shaved and natural. It seems to be finding its way back "in"
Personally i have only ever shaved once, and it sucked!! i was itchy from the regrowth and sore from in growns. I'm very sparse and not very hairy to begin with but i probably only shave my pits maybe once a month (assuming i remember) I believe that pubic hair is there for a reason! Im not a huge fan of going down on a girl that looks pre-pubescent (tho it wouldn't stop me at all). I like a woman to look like a woman when i'm going down on her!
I usually only trim if i feel like its getting to long.
I find it quite common for men too. Shaving not only their pubic region but the chest, back and legs as well. And for me who has to oil up and slide allover them with regrowth on the chest or legs is like sliding over sandpaper.
I also notice how self conscience men are about their body hair! Own it boys! There is nothing wrong with a bit of fur! My Ex who is in the band with me is VERY hairy, when we first got together her was really self conscience about it, but i really don't mind. I prefer the more natural look.
I did have one friend actually who was coming on rather strong and when i told her i was natural down there she was a bit repulsed in her initial reaction. However when we got into it she changed her tune and i found out from half the troupe over the next week how much she enjoyed herself.

While i prefer a natural look, If the Hot Kiwi i have a crush on, turned out to be a clean shaven woman it wouldn't stop me from wanting her sexually! At the end of the day we are attracted to a person and by the
time we are aware of the attraction it is too late to check the state of the pubes first. And likely as not your not going to turn away from a fucking babe, just because you don't approve of the way she keeps her hair.

FWIW Playboy initially shied away from going below the waist in fear of localized obscenity laws. When Penthouse debuted it started showing pubic hair, leading Playboy to start showing it as well. It got a lot of attention in the US at the time, in the '70s. Now they all follow the trends: Good luck finding a hair anywhere below the neck.

                                It'll change, it always does.

Women say this, but would you honestly say that back in the 70's, 80's and earlier, just about every woman had pubic hair because they personally preferred it? There was no "preference" back then. Something had to come along and put the idea of shaving into a woman's head, and that something was porn.

I recently returned from a volleyball superbowl at a nudist resort with more than a 1,000 people there of all ages, and there was hardly a pube in sight. Very sad indeed.

On a side note since Playboy and conservatism were mentioned in this thread, I do remember in the day when Playboy was not only shy about showing pubes, they also went to the lengths of manipulating the genitals area of the model so as to conceal the natural nuances of the delicate parts of the model's genitalia, whereas Hustler went the other way, in that they would manipulate the image so as to emphasise on the delicate parts of the model's vagina and make it look unrealistically meaty. That was back in the 1970s and 1980s but then a bit later on by the 1990s Playboy became much less apt to manipulate any of the model's genitals area so it would appear much more natural but also to be more competative with the other, adult magazine publications that were springing up everywhere. Things did change in the Adult Magazine business back in those days and alot of the decisions those publishers made then were driven by, as Todhunter pointed out in the previous post, to conform more to the matters of what the overal degree of moral acceptance and local and regional obscenity laws would dictate, and to also establish and maintain a certain 'style' or 'look' that they would expect their readers to recognise when they opened the pages of their publications and turned to the centerfold section of the magazine.

If I had a dollar for every Playboy model I saw back in the 70s and 80s whose vagina had the look that it was either sewn shut or there was so much pubic hair in the model's genitals region that she may as well have been wearing shorts or a bikini, and a dollar for every Penthouse model I saw whose vagina lookeed like it had been re-drawn by a cartoon artist so that it looked just that un-natural it wasn't even funny.

But thankfully and with Abbywinters leading the way, there is a place in the Adult Entertainment world where the emphasis is on natural beauty, captured by the best adult entertainment photogs and videographers, to give subscribers an real opportunity to see and enjoy natural beauty in a model. Throughout the years I see that Abbywinters has kept their standards of being the leading adult entertainment site to offer the best in natural beauty.

It's fun to replace 'vagina' with 'chin' and recast this ol' debate as being about men with facial hair.
