    Preview Pic Selection

Hi guys, so in the interest of not spamming the lovely Yara's solo shoot thread, I'm starting a new one for the discussion which was starting to form. It seemed like a few people had some things to say regarding the profile/preview pic selections we've been seeing of late, specifically regarding the apparently increasing prevalence of close-ups of the labia and anus, to the exclusion of the girl's identity and surroundings.

Some thoughts of mine: I obviously have no problems with the existence of the shots. I know that from my own, I have actually come to know my own vagina much better, and also seen the wonderful array that they come in. I think that in itself is a worthwhile thing, to make it clear just how much variety there is, all of it beautiful. The close-ups serve a purpose there. What I've been questioning is how appropriate it is for them to be used as a preview pic, considering the context that we live in a society where Male Gaze (that in itself can become a semantic discussion on naming a concept which is unflattering to men) is an issue. Abbyland has kind of been one of the trailblazers for girl-friendly porn, in my humble opinion, and I'd love to see that good work kept up. I am also curious to hear how that selection process works, how much of it is computer generated.

So if anyone has some input, I'd be curious. Of course, this being a potentially contentious topic, and these being the Abby Winters board, let's all keep it respectful and classy.

I think it's simply that close-up and not-close-up appeal to different groups of (potential) members. Often when a preview pic for stills/vid is a close-up the other vid/stills pic is not close-up, giving you two preview pics to choose from. That way a shoot can appeal or get attention from more people. Now, I don't like pretty much ANY close-ups but that's just me.

AW is girl-friendly I'd say but it does attract quite a lot of male members as well One does not exclude the other, though they may have different interests. Ideally you'd use multiple pics as preview, like the shootpages themselves have, but that takes way more space.

Immie I remember this topic came up a couple years ago. There was a thread with some discussion about the issue, including some responses from the staff at the time on the thinking behind the preview picture selection. I unfortunately can't remember which thread this was posted in, does anyone else remember which thread this discussion was in?

Thanks for your post Immie.... As trebor mentioned there has been at least one other thread on this where I have let my thoughts be known. And yes... AWHQ have told the same story as Frans has just posted, but I think they are missing the point.

I think Dahlia expressed it every elegantly when one of her profile pictures was an "extreme close up"

Heh. Well, glad to see I still have the knack for opening a can of worms every now and again.

I do get the "It takes all sorts" argument that Frans presents, and it's not without merit. That being said, I can think of quite a few counter-arguments. I'm choosing not to do that, though, because I'm not in a headspace right now where I want to be stirring the shit; so I am going down the path of respectfully agreeing to disagree, and being appreciative of Dahlia's eloquence.

Thanks for finding that thread Pinky! Fun to see it goes pretty much the same as this one, also started from a shoot-thread and I suspect will have much the same arguments
