    4K

I cant find any thread for this elsewhere so apologies if its been raised before. Are there any plans to post content in 4K as this is becoming popular elsewhere. As an aside do you track which video and still versions are the most downloaded. Is it the HD and are any versions not very popular at all?

That sounds like a nice idea, a neat concept and good question.

I too would welcome something like a few or several stills to be offered in 4K resolution within a photoset. I haven't yet heard of any other adult site offering anything like that so if Abbywinters did decide to offer it, it could make Abbywinters the firstest with the mostest to offer such a thing.

What kinda monitor do you even need to properly view a 4K still ?

I know you need a lot of video-power to view 4K video, in addition to a screen that can display it of course.

I only download HD versions of vids I really like, all the others do fine in HQ/mp4

I logged in to the forum after a long break to suggest just this

4K devices are getting more and more common ($800 for a 42" 4K TV now, iPads and MacBook Pros have very high resolution screens) and even when downsampled to 1080p on a "regular" TV provides much much sharper images. Perfect for beautiful porn like AB creates. I've been checking out some other sites that shoot their porn at 4K and 60 frames per second and absolutely love it. I'd even be happy to pay an extra "level" of membership to get this. Porn at 60fps is so nice!! Time to upgrade the AB cameras to a couple of Sony A7s and Atomos Shoguns

I also have seen 4k content and it looks so much better even on a non 4k monitor presumably as the quality of the cameras are also higher. I can only imagine how good it will be with a 4k monitor as decryption points out the prices are plummeting all the time. As per my original post, do AW keep records of which standards of videos are downloaded most? Is the HD popular and are any of the LQ versions downloaded much?

Before supporting 4K, AW would have to support full HD.

I agree, 4k looks fantastic and would love to see it available here. If they decided to have a 4k camera drive I'd chip in

redlabka, you'll be pleased to know we're adding full HD in April. We'll be going back and adding HD1080 for most of the scenes in the last two years as well.

As for 4k, I am not sold on it (yet). Purchasing a camera is the easy part. Considerations such as editing, storage and backup are concerns, as are support issues (we sometimes get complaints that out HD720p video files are "too big", or "stutter when playing back" (ffs), and that's a larger issue to deal with.

Our strong belief is that content trumps the technical presentation: better content is far more important than HD 720 vs 1080 (though I agree standard def is poor), so we tend to put more effort in to content, than tech. For example, a while back, we got a 5dmk3 stills camera. We shoot all our stills on it now, but of course, it can also shoot amazing quality video. You'll note, none of our videos are shot with it, however: it's too complex to use while working with an amateur model, too heavy to hold, too difficult to manage. There's no question it's possible, but again, we'd rather put effort into content, than tech in this context.

You may also have noticed some solo videos are being shot with a handy cam now, eg, Maria W. http://www.abbywinters.com/model/maria_w. The cheapie US$1200 cam does some amazing stuff with colour and exposure, and is about 20% the size of the Panasonic HPX camera we use. And I think there's a lot to be said for shooting with "low fi" equipment - we're trying some more of that over the next few months. It has a different, more immediate, and IMO, more sexy feel. As always, your feedback will be welcome!

Yeah for some people's hardware, decoding 4K video would definitely be an issue.

Even for technical presentation, I reckon it's too early -- 4K has 4x the pixels of 1080p and 9.6x the pixels of 720p so, with the same codec and compression settings, the video stream component of filesize would increase drastically (audio not directly affected). I'd rather have smoothly-encoded motion with fewer compression artefacts at 720p or 1080p.

Filesizes are an issue when internet access charges are based on data usage, and also with file systems such as FAT32 that don't support 4+ GiB files.

                      Hi,
That's a great news as more and more of us are moving to faster internet connections and your connectivity is usually really good. I am particularly delighted with your effort to provide the new format for the 2 last years videos. Many thanks for that!
Are you going to just add the new format or do you plan removing some of the existing ones?

Since you plan to release the shoots in higher resolution, have you heard of the HEVC aka. h.265 codec and could you use that for future and re-releases? So far I noticed videos with that compression look well enough and could also lessen your server load.

More in-depth I found this thread with an example: http://www.avsforum.com/forum/286-la...ab-2014-a.html

violetafan, you raise some very good points!

Toholl72, we will ADD 1080p as a new format, and also add a new "SQ" format in MP4 as well, with a bitrate of around 1500, to complement the others and provide a "medium" standard for streaming.

Dropshop, we're comfortable with the MP4 / h264 encoding for now. Once H265 is more stable and accepted, we'll explore it, but we are never on the bleeding edge of video codecs, as we have a large customer base to support.
