I saw a variant of the problem this evening that I had not seen before: the entire home page was correct in English, but the hover-over texts of the Random Tags box (and that box only) were in German. I am attaching a screen shot of the box. A page refresh fixed it.

Hi garionhall, just got in from work, turned my PC on, logged into AW and the following sections have turned german, all the rest of the site is in english as normal as the flag in the top right corner is the uk one.
Sorry for the quality, my capture program is very basic.
This time even refreshing the page doesn't change it back, haven't tried login out yet.Last edited by havijack; 1 May 2015, 05:14 PM.

hey guys, thanks for the info. Our developers are looking into it, and we'll release a probable fix on Monday - I'll post here when we do that, then we'll see if the issue persists. thanks for your patience.

We've released another fix for the "random language showing to some people sometimes" - any changes?

I have not seen the languages messing up again since the fix was applied, but I have been away for a couple of days without access to the site. I agree with havijack: consider it fixed; if it comes back, we'll let you know.
Thanks.

So ... whenever I get a German translation (lost cookie, whatever it is that makes my browser reset the language), my first step is to reset to English, because (i) the German is not particularly good, but also (ii) because I still prefer English over German despite having a German OS language (for the keyboard, y'know?).
If you look at Japanese porn sites like Graphis
you will notice that
(i) they have translated their whole tour section and their FAQ
(ii) obviously people come there for the pretty pictures of pretty girls, and not for the good quality of the English
(iii) nothing directs you automatically to the English version except a big ">>ENGLISH" button
Many of the site features (e.g. user-contributed tags) only make sense because there is an English-speaking community supporting them.
So, my hunch would be:
a) get the tour section professionally translated/localized
b) make the rest of the UX accessible through good usability rather than localization (e.g. left/right arrow, thumbs up/down)
c) maybe build a language selector into the "are you over 18?" page so that people can choose between OS language and English
Of course that is my opinion, and does not necessarily match anyone else's.

thanks for the feedback sqrt17.
On our site, are you still find that when you switch to English, the setting does not "stick", and you are automatically set back to German after some time?

@Garion: I didn't have problems after that. One possible reason was that I got in through an external link in some TGP-like gallery, and that (if I remember right) did not check the "remember me" box when logging in back then.
To explain the "get a professional translation" bit further: different people are differently sensitive to the "native language vs. English" issue - certain people will certainly count it against a product if it's not localized; However, I'm getting half a dozen badly MT'd spam mails every week, and that's the association that part of your potential audience will have with MT-sounding text on adult topics. Kudos in any case for trying to expand the audience of AW!
