Cult classic and experimental adult films!

Hey Abbyland,

So as some of you may know, I am now doing my Masters and I am currently doing some extraneous research on cult, experimental, and underground XXX and/or erotic films or films with erotic elements. I am trying to look more specifically at anything science fiction related. So far I've watched the excellent Cafe Flesh and Liquid Sky . I also just decided to watch Behind the Green Door although it's not sci fi but it's incredibly well shot and, well, very hot. Also watched Demon Seed which was hilarious and also very disturbing (SPOILER), especially the birth scene at the very end.

So I thought I'd ask Abbyland for some help or suggestions! I just want to talk about some classic adult films in general and note down any recommendations or just facilitate a discussion on films you would like to talk about!

Regarding sci fi, have you seen films by Maria Beatty?

Oooh no, just looked her up and she seems to capitalize on that whole Burning Man aesthetic later on in her career, which as a Canadian, dislike immensely because of the uninformed and blind hedonism of that culture. I was thinking more like retro films in general, like 70s-80s period. I just finished watching SexWorld which I would definitely recommend. It's not like totally "sexy" but it's funny and it's pretty consumable I find for a movie length adult film and has some good themes that are briefly touched upon.

i'm quite a fan of really campy extremely low-budget cult films.. have you seen 'Sins of the Fleshapoids' by Mike Kuchar? it's about 'fleshapoid' robots who overthrow their lazy human masters and discover robot eroticism, feel like it would fit your theme, it was one of John Water's favorite films.. it's not exactly 'hot' but definitely has erotic themes and it's pretty camptastic

These are not sci-fi but I’m really into 70’s European arthouse and exploitation, mostly horror/fantasy/surrealist/psychedelic erotica/soft porn. Directors like Jess Franco and Jean Rollins. Cheesy and unintentionally funny at times but imaginative, sexy and stylish with groovy soundtracks. Also at a higher standard Walerian Borowczyk. The Beast (La Bete) is my favourite erotic film.
