    New design: New design

    Hiya,

These are a couple of screen captures of the new design we're going to adopt. Feedback would be appreciated, though probably at this late stage most suggestions you may have won't be acted upon immediately. It'll be a bit of experimenting while we figure out the rough spots, menu system especially.

      What new design?
All I see are luscious beautiful girls. And lots of them.
How do you join this thing?

The only other thing I noticed had me rolling on the floor.
The "key" on the top right of the Gallery screen shows:
      video (green film icon)
      audio (blue speaker icon)
      peeing (yellow drip icon)
      !!LOL!!

Are you going to have an icons for other waste eliminations?
      ROFLMAO!!

From what I see, I like it! I looks well organized and easy to navigate.

For my taste I find the light blue a little "cold" and perhaps not very inviting. The black you have today is quite "sophisticated". I'm sure there are lots of studies on the colours that web site visitors find most appealing. Amazon.com, for example uses a darker blue and a grey for the tabs. The light blue in your mock up would probably be white in most e-commerce sites I have seen.

I think it's great that the site is clean with no annoying ad banners or popups. That's almost the most important thing to me.

The pee icon cracked me up. Pictures of girls peeing does nothing for me but I guess it must be very popular with members.

S'okay I suppose, but I much prefer the current 'classy' design if I'm being honest.

Won't it take much longer to load??

It shouldn't take any longer to load once the pages are in your cache. However, at first there will be some acclimatisation I'm sure. Inevitable, unfortunately.

The thing about the black vs blue, though, is that after a year of looking at black, it no longer appealed to me, nor Abby. We wanted something a bit brighter. We also figured we needed to utilise the space available on wider resolution screens instead of jamming it all into the minimum standard width. That's one of those things that has plagued me as a web designer since the beginning - when to use percentage widths, when to use fixed widths.

Anyhoo, change is always something that people need time to get accustomed to.

Ouch - I'm going to have to get my sunglasses for that bright blue. And I'll miss the nifty textured gradients (sniff) if they're going away.

Will we Mac/Netscape users be able to use "New Window with this Link" in the new menus? Opening an actual link in a new window isn't a problem, but I recall having trouble doing that in some JavaScript menus.

That's a good question. Well, not being a Mac nor Netscape user, I can't say specifically 'yes' to that. Indeed, we're having a bit of trouble with Netscape just now, and may have to rethink the menu idea if we can't sort it out.

However, presently I can right-click and get the 'open link in new window' with my PC/IE5.0, so I hope that's a good sign.

                  Hi

With regards to change, I do agree it will take some time to get used to. I would ask that everyone give it a month or so. After which, I'll take a vote - stay with the new (with changes that will inevitably be suggested) or revert to the old. It'll take a 75% majority, and some good reasons.

                  Fair?

                  Abby

I think the new design will work fine, but appreciate Abby's offer to take a democratic vote.

The test, surely, will be the signup and retention rates before and after. I used to consult with a "dot com" in California in the heady days of the mad expansion of e-commerce. It was not a porn site though - not nearly as much fun.

We tracked our signup and renewal rates and tweaked things regularly to see the effect: everything from minor changes of wording to major redesigns. For all that spending, the metrics stayed pretty much the same. The only areas that made a big difference was in the signup and payment process, where every extra question asked or page to navigate caused a significant drop-off.

My only reservation is about the choice of the two shades of blue. Did you experiment other colour combinations? Whatever you choose, I'm sure I'll get used to it.

I hope that the new design is easy to maintain and update: they Abby and Videoman will be able to put more time into the photography, which is what we're all here for.

I think this will make the site easier to update... one thing I've included is stylesheets, for example. Designed for ease of use.

Regarding the colours of blue I chose - well, at first I wanted gradients, but Abby didn't seem to like that. She wanted straight edges, plain bold colours, simple lines. The blues are both websafe colours, though, and that's the main reason why I chose those ones specifically.

Ah stylesheets! In my limited experience I have found them to be great in theory but the differences between IE and Netscape, AOL and even WebTV have caused real problems. Perhaps it is getting easier as the browsers mature.

Have you had a chance to check the site logs from your ISP to see which browsers visitors use?

When first introduced, stylesheets were a good idea that were unfortunately impractical due to the high usage of older browsers around and about. That was about four years ago.

Since then, high version numbered browsers are much more widespread, and also it seems a really high majority of users have IE, around 75% or so. Netscape have shot themselves in the foot.

One good thing about a porn site like ours is that most users are fairly techy geeky, at least enough to know that latest versions of browsers are the way to go, and know how to set their screen res to at least 800x600 (which the site is currently optimised for). Therefore I have a target audience that I can cater to, whereas for most other mainstream websites I do I have to cater for the lowest common denominator, which limits me a little.

                            Hi

FYI, 55% of ppl visiting aw.com use MSIE, 39% use NS, and the rest a variety of linkbots. Unfortunately, the truly great browser, Opera, does not make it into the top 15.

I like everything about the new site design! I also like the blue choices better then the black borders and the new layout really reflects all the great content this site has. I'm betting this will do well with new people that first see the site of course I have a hard time believing that anyone who sees the quality of the gals here wouldn't immediately sign up!

Great new design - just like your pics and movies - this will leave all the others for dead. Especially like the key icons and advice of when a series is completed - most other sites keep everyone in the dark !!!

Would it be possible to have an option to view a model index in alphabetical order?

Not that I really mind searching through the lovely ladies ;0)

                                    Cap'n.

The sitemap already has this feature. The models page is chronological, and Sitemap is alphabetical (and the fetish page is indexed by other attribs).
