Help a mac user with sound problems?

    Hi

Got a Mac user who can view the video vision fine with DivX installed, but he has no sound. He has checked the obvious, turning the volume up, but has no other ideas.

Can anyone help resolve this problem? OSX is being used.

I'll think of a good reward...

    Hi Abby,
Your videos play perfectly with sound in my Mac, they did with MacOS 10.2.x and they still do with MacOS 10.3.1 and Quicktime 6.x

First, make sure your Mac user has the latest divx codec installed: http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/

I also have the 3ivx codec installed, I don't think this is necessary to view your divx videos but it is worth a try if all else fails:

Occasionaly, I download a divx file that needs fixing in order to hear sound on a Mac, but your videos where never one of them.
Divx doctor does that job: http://doctor.3ivx.com/

What Maarten wrote is perfect, but I have two other other video players that seem to work when quicktime won't play avi files properly. One is called VLC and the other is MPLayer. Both can be found by doing a search at www.versiontracker.com

This Mac user has never had audio problems with AW's DivX videos, though I've had my share of problems with others. I've also been using the divx.com codecs and Mplayer, and thoroughly agree with Maarten.

The following thread and the rest of DivX Mac Forums may be useful:

There's a well known bug with Quicktime and non standard audio in avi files. (at least well known amongst tech heads and developers)
Basically you are always going to have problems with certain types of audio in divx files.
Solutions - Use Divx Doctor to convert the files
If you are on OSX use a third party player like the ones suggested above. I prefer VLC
