Damn pop-ups!

Okay, we all know we all hate pop-ups - but goddammit! They are frickin insane! So many sites would be top line content if they didn't ruin it with stupid pop-ups every second! Wagh!

And that's not just porn either. Mainstream sites do it too! I wish I wish I wish... *sigh*

Thoughts?

I totally agree, pop-ups are just a pain in the arse, basically.

The worst offender I can think of (although it's not adult-orientated) is an Anna Kournikova site, www.anna-fans.com, a superb site which is comes very close being completely ruined by the incessant pop-up windows that launch every time you click on a link.

Does anyone actually bother looking at these things either?

The worst part of it is when I'm on ICQ, and I'm typing away, when my sentence is interrupted by some stupid pop-up that steals focus, and I end up typing nothing.

It's like web designers have two options: create a site that people like and will keep coming back to, or create an incessantly annoying piece of irritation that will make people resent you, revile you, and hold you up for ridicule.

We chose the right one here, that's for sure. Hits to our site mean little - what we want is happy customers.

There are also some sites that automatically put their link on your Favourites list! Great googly moogly, I hate that. What the hell, they think I want a link that says "XXX Asian Pussylickers" openly displayed on my list? (Even worse, uncategorised!!)

404 error, huh? Vid-dude, you might want to look into registering that!

You can reduce the effectiveness of popup consoles a little by turning java off in your browser prefs. that means you miss on some pretty java stuff, but IMHO, it's all crap anyway. Waste of bandwidth.

Javascript is still allowed, tho (or you can turn it off as well, if you like - then you will get no popups, but you'll also not get a lot of outher good stuff)..

That's the compromise I don't like to make - I like most javascript stuff, it's funky.

Abby manages to give me stuff that occupies my time plenty much really - she'd do it more if she could I'm sure!!
