Well, this is one of those things I did not expect to do, however things have a habit of changing. Contrary to what some may think, this is not a bid for sympathy, but just a factual update and explanation. As I mentioned several months ago, my SYL and I have been living with my prostate cancer. Now things have progressed. I will be going out of town about 275 kms for radiation therapy, starting about the end of April. Five days a week, Monday thru Friday, ex holidays.
So with expected side effects and distance, I will be taking up weekday residence in a "patient lodge" for 8 weeks and coming home on weekends, and hoping I feel well enough to enjoy the weekend and SYL. So, Abby and others in the office, this old guy is NOT abandoning the site in May, but will be rejoining after I feel well enough to do so. Had I a laptop, I'd take it with me. Bad enough I have to shut down my business while I undertake this therapy, but no Abby? Horrors. The business and equipment is such that only I make the decisions re its upkeep and use. And since SYL lives 125km away, and has her own job with changing shifts, she is out as a sub., though she could do it all very competently.
But, there is an upside to this. And those of you Brits who are familiar with NHS will know what I mean. This exercise will cost me nothing out of pocket other than my meals at the lodge (about $10 Cdn daily), and my fuel to and from on the weekends, about $30 roundtrip. I calculated the total costs if I drove daily to and from, but figured that $1600.00 was too much so opted to stay over. Yes, the lodging itself is free for patients more than 40km from home. As well side effects could make it extremely dangerous on a daily basis. This is one of the benefits of socialized medicine, along with excellent medical care. Yanks take note.
So about two weeks ahead of departure, and a month ahead of renewal, I'll say thanks for all the pleasures and discussions I've been involved in and seen here on the boards, and I'll definitely be back in late July or August to hassle you all again. Ladies, I WILL miss my daily doses of pulchritude. CHEERS TO ALL.
