I look upon AW as "preventative" measure since I heard that frequent masturbation (and thus frequent prostate activity) can help prevent(slowdown?/minimize?) cancer there. Any thoughts on this?

This is a theory that has a some scientific credibility and you may wish to read an article by the respected New Scientist on this matter.

"Wanking for health" is still a theory as evidence is not entirely conclusive due to the obvious problems in collecting reliable data. One of the problems is that masturbation is still a taboo subject. People are reluctant to admit to masturbation because the act is still associated with moral degeneration and also it is perceived that only unattractive, sad and lonely people masturbate. I think we wankers should all stand up and be counted. I can't comment about how attractive/unattractive I am but I'm not sad or lonely. I have an active and verrry satisfying sex life and I masturbate like everybody else. Lets admit we all do it. I masturbate a lot when Hubby is away but even when he's home I like a good frigg especially during a nice relaxing bath!!!!!

I have seen studies that say that most women and virtually all men masturbate... so there must be many more sad, unattractive, and lonely people than I imagined. There is so much BS out there, despite the massive evidence that it causes no psychological or physical damage, if practiced in moderation. (Of course, "moderation" is a very flexible term I knew a guy (smart fellow too) who was afraid to wear loose pajamas because they stimulated him and he might have "flown solo" (to borrow a phrase from another, also uptight, friend who also has a way with words.

Er.. Thanks for that Philos. Bigspud had asked for thoughts on the medicinal benefits of masturbation. Frequent ejaculation from any source would be healthy and that would obviously include masturbation. Actually the article does specifically mention masturbation and provides a link to an earlier report on the matter. You can read all about it here.

With regards to your link and the “increased sex reduces endometriosis” theory, what the report actually says is that women who engage in sex during their period (or more specifically have orgasms during menstruation) have a better chance of not developing endometriosis than those women who abstain from sex during “that time of month”. The report also suggests that using a tampon is another effective preventative measure. A small point, but made in the interests of accuracy . A fat lot of good it did me as I enjoy sex when on the blob and I use tampons. I wont elaborate on either item, as I know some of the forum readers are sensitive souls!!!!!

Wow!!! Wanking is my favorite past time. It is one of the greatest taboo in India (probably that is why we have the second largest population. ). There is actually another very useful application for masturbation, having children.

I was one of those unfortunate ones where having sex to have kids just didn't work for us. Had to provide tons of samples for all the different procedures we tried. We had a lot of fun doing it. The biggest problem was having to do it dry to avoid contamination. Ouch! But all the hard (hehe) work paid off and I have a beautiful two year old daughter.

Roops had to give several samples as part of our IVF treatment. This book was discussed in another forum I used to contribute to. I do not really subscribe to new age quackery though I know there are people who are into it in a big way. The book discusses male multi and dry orgasms which I think can be detrimental to male sexual health, which I'll discus later.

My own practical experience is limited. The "dry" orgasm - as opposed to taking a man to the edge and then stopping as part of a tease-play - is where a man has an orgasm without ejaculating. The only one I've seen was when I masturbated a 13 year boy (um, I was 13 years old as well) My sex education was patchy at the time, but I'm sure he orgasmed except that only a tiny tiny drop of fluid appeared on the end of his penis.

As for male multi-orgasms, I have seen (and tasted) this many years ago though what I saw was not what the Taoists had in mind!!!
