WMV vs. mp4/mpg Quality: WMV superior?

I am currently browsing older (pre-2010) videos. The FAQ states in several places that mp4 is superior to WMV. However, when comparing downloaded videos, I usually find WMV to be better, both visually and when comparing screenshots of the same part from VLC.

Can anyone confirm this?

Depends on the qualty (lq/sq/hq) you're downloading I'd guess. This was discussed years ago with introduction of the mp4 format, might want to read this thread: https://forums.abbywinters.com/vbull...264-mp4-videos (at smaller filesize/bitrate wmv tends to be better, esp. low-light if I recall correctly)
